Here at MiTek Baltics, it’s brilliant to see ambitious and unique buildings coming to life. Over in the UK, our MiTek colleagues have been supporting an unusual project.

In a secluded rural spot in the UK, tucked away beneath a sedum grass roof is an entirely circular house, complete with a circular front door and rounded windows. Set into an artificial hill with country paths surrounding the property, it’s been aptly named the Hobbit House.

Built by Benthom Developments, the properties future is as a themed holiday let. With its distinctive look, and idyllic setting, we’re sure it will be a memorable get away!

Unique builds need unique support, and Posi-Joist was the best solution for bringing this project to life. The scope, and the size of the project meant that metal web joists were the most practical solution to create the desired span, strength, and shape.

A key feature in the design is the overhanging roof, which allows space to walk around the entire underside of the property. The joists sit on the walls, allowing the roof to be enjoyed in all its splendour. An impressive 45 joists support the roof!

Hobbit House is certainly a breath of fresh air with its unusual design, and shows that there are no limits to what projects and builds Posi-Joist can play a key role in.
